Your 3-day Samburu safari begins with an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel, residence or airport.

Depart Nairobi and travel north towards Samburu. The journey takes you through changing landscapes, from the greener central highlands towards the drier and more rugged scenery of northern Kenya.

You may stop along the way for refreshments and scenic views before continuing towards Samburu National Reserve.

Arrive in the Samburu area around lunchtime and proceed to your safari lodge or tented camp.

Enjoy lunch and some time to relax.

In the afternoon, head out for your first Samburu game drive.

Explore the reserve along the Ewaso Ng'iro River and surrounding plains, looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, lions and other wildlife.

Samburu is particularly famous for its unique northern species, so your guide will also look for the Samburu Special Five.

Continue your game drive until late afternoon before returning to your lodge.

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before heading out for a full-day game drive in Samburu National Reserve.

The early morning is one of the best times to explore the reserve, when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is generally more active.

Spend the day exploring different sections of the reserve in search of wildlife.

Samburu Special Five

Keep your eyes open for the reserve's famous northern species:

Grevy's zebra
Reticulated giraffe
Gerenuk
Beisa oryx
Somali ostrich

You will also have opportunities to look for elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons and numerous smaller mammals and bird species.

The Ewaso Ng'iro River is an important source of water for wildlife, and its riverine vegetation creates excellent areas for game viewing.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in a designated area or return to the lodge for lunch depending on the day's itinerary.

Continue with your afternoon game drive before returning to the lodge in the evening.

Optional Samburu Cultural Visit

Depending on your interests and timing, you can add a visit to a Samburu village to learn about the community's traditional lifestyle, culture, crafts and customs.

Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Wake up early for your final morning game drive in Samburu National Reserve.

This is another opportunity to search for wildlife before leaving northern Kenya.

Your guide will focus on areas where recent wildlife activity has been observed, giving you another chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, lions and other species.

Return to your lodge for breakfast and check out.

Begin your journey back to Nairobi, with lunch en route.

Continue south towards Nairobi and arrive in the late afternoon or evening, depending on road and traffic conditions.

You will be dropped off at your Nairobi hotel, residence or airport, marking the end of your 3-day Samburu safari.
