Pickup Nairobi Airport | Nairobi Hotel
There’s plenty of reasons Amboseli is such a popular park – we’ve already mentioned the photographic presence of Kilimanjaro, but did you know that this park may be the best place in Africa, if not the world for viewing free-ranging elephants? The light terrain of the park combined with the great numbers of elephants here guarantees you will see them as they parade in their imposing herds.
You will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Nairobi airport. Hop into the 4 x 4 for the beginning of your journey to Amboseli Park along the Nairobi-Mombasa Road.
Along the way, we’ll take in the African sun rising over the savannah. Look for local homesteads and the Maasai herdsmen in their colorful wraps, tending to their cattle.
Safari
Even before you arrive at Amboseli, you’ll be guided by the unmistakable summit of Kilimanjaro, drawing you to the park. We’ll arrive in time for lunch at your lodge or tented camp.
After fortifying ourselves, we’ll venture out on our first game drive looking for elephant, lion, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, ostrich and so many others.
Amboseli is known as a park where the wildlife viewing is easy and abundant. The lack of dense foliage helps safari-goers and their expert guides to spot the park’s more quickly many and diverse animals.
The reserve is also a photographer’s dream, framed by the snowy flanks and summit of Kilimanjaro. Toward the evening and sometimes early morning, the daytime clouds obscuring this tallest peak, drift off giving lucky viewers a stuffing view of the mountain’s iconic summit.
Overnight
We’ll spend the night in the park at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp of your choice.
We like to rise early while on safari to set an adventurous tone for the day. We’ll watch the light breaking upon the park and catch the wildlife as it appears on the savannah.
Our next assignment: breakfast! And then another morning game drive through the park. One of the advantages of Amboseli is that the terrain is open with thin foliage. This makes the game spotting easier.
We’ll be watching for lion and leopard and the park’s almost ever-present great parade of elephants. Seeing the magnificent elephants patrolling in line before the majesty of Kilimanjaro is a special treat of this reserve.
Lunch at your accommodation is next and perhaps some relaxing time. The day is yours to pace as you want.
Should you want to fill your day with unlimited game drives, your guide is available to make that happen as well.
Overnight
We’ll relax and spend our second and final night at the park.
Our final day in the park and we want to squeeze in all the game viewing we can. We’ll start on a pre-breakfast safari and see who we can check off our list. Don’t forget to look for the smaller animals here like hyenas, foxes, jackals, and monkeys.
There’s also a colorful variety of rich birdlife in the park – pelican, kingfisher, egret, and heron are found near the park’s marshes and lakes.
We’ll enjoy one more Amboseli breakfast, with views of great Kilimanjaro and then a final game drive as we exit the reserve.
Drop off
it’s time for our drive back to Nairobi. It’s also a time to dwell upon all the wildlife we’ve seen and experienced over our 3-day safari.
We’ll be back in town late afternoon and drop you off at your hotel, residence, or the airport.
